Since this area is getting a bit more attention now as more progress has been made with audio, I decided to do a quick Google for anything that I may not have seen before.
Seems that a certain MeDevil, the writer of the kext that supports the NForce chipset, posted on the Superhai forums a few weeks back and mentioned he was writing a small kext to catch ACPI events and control brightness on his laptop.
I've sent him a PM over on InsanelyMac to see if he'd be willing to help us on this issue.
